Dog Training FAQ’s
Independence Dog Training FAQ’s
Learn more about our Philadelphia Dog Training programs!
I’ve tried a trainer before, and I didn’t get the results I was hoping for. What makes you different?
We train your dog within the home, giving you the best chance of successful training. Your dog will be trained around his/her everyday distractions/triggers, and your dog will receive one-on-one, customized attention. We design our programs to fit the dog’s specific needs and the owner’s lifestyle. You’ll know exactly what the training program will entail, and you’ll sign off on it before we even get started. And we charge by the job rather than by the session. So if it takes a while for your pooch to catch on, you don’t need to worry about paying extra fees.
What training methods do you use?
We use a unique form of positive reinforcement training, which combines basic obedience lessons and proper leash handling techniques to mold a focused dog that views you, the owner, as the “leader.”
Do you train with treats?
We may use treats once in a while during training, but we are careful to never rely on them. Your dog should listen to you because he’s focused on you, not so he can get a treat.
Do you use shock collars?
No. At Independence Dog Training, we feel that any corrections should come from a person rather than an object.
What ages do you work with?
All ages. We have a special program for puppies aged sixteen weeks and younger, which focuses on common problems like house training, crate training, chewing, bonding, basic obedience, etc. We can customize our basic in-home training program to fit all other ages.
What breeds do you work with?
Any of them. Rottweilers, Pit Bulls, Chihuahuas, Great Danes, Westies, mixed breeds, etc. We don’t believe in breed stereotyping, and we don’t shy away from a challenge.
What types of behavioral issues have you successfully handled in the past?
Anything you can think of. Housebreaking, excessive barking, separation anxiety, leash pulling, leash reactivity, human aggression, dog aggression, food aggression, hyperactivity, jumping, counter surfing, and more.
What area do you serve?
Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, within a 45 minute radius. If you’re not sure whether or not you’re included in that area, give us a call. We’ll be happy to check.
